Ancient Buddhism Findings

Just as Gautam Buddha had a name Dashbal (Dasbal), so a name, there was also Ashtbhuja Sami (Ashtbhuja Lord).

The Ashtbhuja Sami name of the Buddha was on the basis possibly refers to the Eight Arms of the Dhamma Chakra. This is confirmed by this conch shell inscription obtained from Nagarjunakonda.

It is written in the inscription ; Bhagwato Athbhuja Samisa, Beside is Dhamma Chakra (Eight Arms). The writing of the inscription is in Ikshvaku style of Brahmi Script. It is from 3rd – 4th century.
