This is the Ashoka Pillar located in Allahabad. It is in the Akbar’s Fort near Prayag. Being close to Prayag, it is also called Prayag Prashasti. Originally it was in Kaushambi village but the Mughal Ruler Jahangir uprooted it from there and installed in this fort. The Six Writings of Emperor Ashoka written in Seven Lines were erased by Jahangir, and Arabic was written by him there. Even before the removal of this pillar from Jahangir, Samudra Gupta had written his own article under the article of Emperor Ashoka. This Article is not in Brahmi Script in the form of Ashoka Period but in the Modern Form (Gupta Bramhi) has been written.
Four years ago i saw it live. The Fort in which this pillar is, the access is prohibited to general public because the Government Of India stores their Ammo Stock here. I got special permission to see this pillar from Senior Army Officer under the supervision of an Army Soldier on the condition of not photographing.
